How might I use this?

I've used these microscopes with students in the field many times and they have proven themselves to be durable, easy to carry around and full of "Wow" factor! Perfect for inquisitive minds both indoors and out.

Weighing just 68 grams and measuring only 10cm in length, these tiny pocket microscopes are easy to pop in your bag or store in the home. You can change the magnification from x60 to x120 with a simple sliding mechanism, which means that once you've got your view fixed on something it's easy to zoom in or out so long as you keep the microscope held steady. In this way, it's easier to use than a traditional microscope where you would have to change lens to be able to investigate your specimen in more detail. With a little practice, it's easy to delve into the microscopic world with a simple slide of the thumb and a roll of the focus wheel. I've found that this makes it particularly intuitive for children to really understand what they are seeing and tap in to their natural curiosity.

The LED illumination makes it easy to see what you're looking at regardless of your environment. Whether you're in a shady wood, a dark room or in bright sunlight you'll be able to see you specimen easily.

The magnification capacity is amazing for something so small and compact. You can easily see the fibres of paper or cloth and with a little practice, you can see the scales of a human hair and make out the cells in a leaf. It's not so great for looking at larger, moving organisms like ants or woodlice as the movement makes it hard to focus, but if you want to study stationary objects in great detail with a good quality image, or see that a drop of apparently empty pond water is actually a world of spinning, whizzing life, this could be just what you're looking for.
