How does it work?
The three activities ("Micro-life", "Weird and Wonderful Invertebrates" and "Bones, teeth and skeletons" can be adapted to to suit your requirements and group sizes. We can offer all three activities as a carousel for example, or can run one or more of them of them in more depth for an extended period with a class or group. We can also offer a "show and tell" vertebrate session where the students meet our corn snake and learn all about her!

Simply get in touch and tell us what year groups, group sizes and activities you're ideally looking for and we'll be in touch to help work out which structure would best suit your needs.

How much does it cost?
The cost depends upon the number of activities and the structure you require and is charged per delivery hour. We can often adapt the structure to suit your budget so get in touch and let us know what you're looking for and we'll help find a structure to suit your requirements and budget.

Who is this suitable for?
Our workshops are suitable for all year groups from FS2 to Y6. The resources, activities, delivery and objectives are all carefully differentiated to ensure that whichever year group we're working with, the children will be able to access and benefit from all the exciting, hands on learning activities on offer. Specifically, each workshop links to the following aspects of the National Curriculum:

  • FS2: Observations of animals, linked to numeracy, same / different.
  • Y1: Identify and name, describe and compare (fish, amphibians ,reptiles, birds and mammals). Carnivores, herbivores, omnivores.
  • Y2: Habitats, microhabitats, food chains
  • Y3: Skeletons (and exoskeletons) and muscles, support protection and movement.
  • Y4: Classification, groups, environments can change. Teeth and their functions. Producers, predators and prey.
  • Y5: Life cycles and life processes. How animals reproduce and grow.
  • Y6: Classification, similarities and differences. Classify by observation of invertebrate and vertebrate groups. Animal and plant adaptations to environment. Adaptation leads to evolution.
"It has been amazing to hear how teachers of children from aged 4 to 11 all feel strongly that the sessions were superbly pitched for their children. "

Who does the teaching?
Our sessions are run by Amanda Childs, a fully qualified teacher (QTS, PGCE Science) with over twelve years of teaching experience, enhanced DBS, safeguarding certification, paediatric first aid qualification and "working with children with learning difficulties and disabilities" certification. She may be accompanied by assistant staff depending on the requirements.
Amanda has many years experience teaching children aged four to sixteen and is very happy handling a class of students.
We ask that a class teacher is also present for each class of students. The teacher can be as hands on or off as they wish but we find that the students and staff often get the most out of workshops when the teachers join in and that students with SEND have adequate supervisory provision.

What do we need to provide?
We bring all the activities and resources necessary for your workshop and can adapt to most areas you might be likely to have available in your school. All you need to provide is a teacher and class!

It is helpful to be able to park close to a school entrance for unloading and loading equipment. The most suitable area is large enough for the number of agreed students to move around, with some table space available. Chairs aren't usually necessary, as the students will be active and on their feet. Having a sink and wipe clean floor is helpful but not essential.

"The fact the children could get so close to the animals and use equipment that they don’t always get to see in the classroom was brilliant. It was also great for them to have parts explained by an expert. "
